Manda Bala (Send A Bullet) 2007
I did not really know what to expect when I rented Manda Bala. I saw it mentioned on the Green Cine blog and figured I would rent it. I am glad I did.
Manda Bala is a Brazilian documentary that I guess is illegal to view in Brazil. The main subject of this movie is the crime / corruption that is rampant in Sau Paulo and all of Brazil, and gets interviews with both victims of crime, and those that commit the crime, as well as any other party involved.
The film interviews a variety of people; woman who was kidnapped and had ear cut off, anti kidnapping unit at the police, frog farmer, corrupt politician, man who sells armored vehicles, attorneys, doctor who specializes in recreating ears, and a man who is a professional bank robber/kidnapper.
I found the movie very disturbing, but entertaining at the same time. I thought it really did shine the light on the crime and corruption in Brazil and I think I learned quite a bit by watching Manda Bala.
The extras on the movie I think were quite interesting and educational as well, but you can see why they were edited out of the original movie. 2 or 3 of the extras goes in depth on how the frog farms works, which I found really interesting.
All in all, I would say if you get a chance to watch or rent this movie, then you should. 4 out 5 stars. ![]()
